Dunera Day in Hay

On Sat 7th September 1940 four steam train loads of internees, in 48 carriages arrived at the Hay Railway Station. They comprised mostly Germans, Austrians, mostly Jewish and others who had fled from Nazi occupied Europe to England. They were interned by and in Britain following the June 1940 occupation of France and transported to Australia in the HMT Dunera. They were moved to Tatura Victoria Camps in May 1941.

On Sat 7 September at the Museum, from 5pm to 6pm there will be drinks, nibbles and music, when you can learn more about the 1,984 Dunera Boys at Hay, and the 76rd Anniversary of their arrival at Hay.

There will be a brief 8-30am re-enactment of their arrival and guided tours to the other six Hay sites of their activities during the day. Sites to visit--Camp 7, Camp 8, 161h Aust. Garrison Battalion site, Hay Gaol Military Hospital, Hay War Cemetery, Bidgee Bend farm
