Visit the Long Paddock - Cobb Highway Touring route and explore NSW from the banks of the Murray River to the iconic outback towns of Broken Hill, Bourke and White Cliffs.
Only 2 hours from Melbourne, this easy self-drive touring route offers adventures for all ages and budgets, from fishing and camping to museums and galleries the Long Paddock has it all.
The touring route follows the 610km of Cobb Highway, featuring the Murray, Edward, Murrumbidgee, Lachlan and Darling Rivers. The Long Paddock takes visitors from the Victorian border at Echuca - Moama through Mathoura, Deniliquin, Pretty Pine, Wanganella, Booroorban, Hay, Booligal and Ivanhoe to the outback at Wilcannia.
You will be taken through some of the most unique landscapes in Australia including the Hay Plains renowned as the flattest place in the southern hemisphere and cross some of the most historically important agricultural country.
The Long Paddock passes through some of the most character filled villages where locals provide visitors with a glimpse of life in country communities. Make sure you stop and have a cuppa or a beer in Mathoura, Pretty Pine, Wanganella, Booroorban, Booligal and Ivanhoe where you will be welcomed with a smile.
Unlike the early travellers and drovers that traversed the often harsh and unforgiving plains of the Riverina and south-west New South Wales, we now see the world from the comfort of air conditioned vehicles - we now measure the trip in hours rather than days.
As you drive along the Cobb Highway you will notice that the history and stories of the Long Paddock have been captured on interpretative panels.
The panels are located at significant sites and are a wonderful mixture of truths, tales and images! To really experience the drover's dream stop at each of the panels and become part of the Long Paddock.
